Triumph over the gigamon and the celebratory pork chop
Orange fury tamed
After weeks of Bruce and I battling heroically, we’ve finally managed to get our gigamon’s wealth of information to the intrusion detection system. The gigamon is a racy orange device that listens to huge amounts of network traffic and then shares it with a number of devices plugged into it. It’s a fancy tap that lets you eavesdrop on the network. For some reason, though, ours didn’t want to share with our IDS…until 4:45pm tonight. Turns out we had the wrong cable plugged in. For a geek like me, that’s huge. So I’m really looking forward to tomorrow, when I can see what exactly we have running in our secure networks.
Forbidden meat sanctified
Tonight I made one of the best pork chops I’ve ever cooked. If you want an amazing pork chop, but don’t want a complicated recipe, here are the ingredients you mash over your pork chop before pan-frying it:
- About a head of garlic, crushed
- About a tablespoon of pimenton, or paprika
- About a teaspoon of cumin
- One or two tablespoons of lemon juice, like enough to mix it into a paste, but not enough to make a slurry
- Maybe a half teaspoon of salt
Mush the ingredients all over the two pork chops this is enough for, and let it sit for a bit. Then pan-fry them and deglaze the pan with wine or something when you’re done. It’s the same spice mix I think they used in Alexandria when I had the best tapas Shrimp ever. Try it!

Seriously, an entire head of garlic and not just a clove? You must have a 20 constitution and a +7 vorpal stomach.
Yes, I love garlic. I frequently cook dishes that use either a whole head of garlic or close to it. It doesn’t mess with your stomach if it’s cooked fully. And it makes the best sort of potpourri for the house. Not to mention I’ve had no vampire visits, which is obviously a sign of its effectiveness.
[…] posting that has certain keywords in it. I received a visit by one of my coworkers today regarding a post I made a couple days ago about my pork chops, and a certain brightly colored network appliance […]
I am mildly allergic to garlic so a dose like that would do unfortunate things to my GI tract. Which is too bad, really. When we harvest our lush organic patch o’ garlic this fall, you want I should send you some?
I would, actually. I am a huge garlic fan. What a horrible thing to be allergic to! I always mean to grow some of my own, but never seem to be successful with it. The cloves end up the size of peas. Any tips, particularly factors that affect size?
