Reckoning
Today I turned in my performance review. It was quite a challenge, because this year was mostly spent moving into my new security position, and so I don’t have many accomplishments to brag about other than stuff like “Successfully read piles and piles of whitepapers, articles, blogs, web sites, and books.” Hopefully my raise doesn’t suffer as a result.
Wednesdays are the days I meet my friend Dean down at Funk n Waffles for coffee. It’s a coffee shop that plays funk music and serves waffles, oddly enough. It’s got the old-school couches and comfy chairs thing going on like my old favorite place Zopie’s used to have. If it’s a cold day out, it’s great to plop down in a chair as old as I am and sip a mug of hot coffee as if I was home. When I meet up with Dean, we keep each other on task. It’s the classic situation of iron sharpening iron, or maybe more like two monkeys delicing each other’s heads. Everybody needs friends who will keep them accountable to doing what they need to do and offer suggestions on how they can improve.
