Domine, labia mea aperies et os meum annuntiabit laudem tuam
My annual busy time is over, and I’m back to blogging. You may notice a few backdated entries. Those are blog entries I’ve sketched out during my absence, and am now fleshing out. Call it dishonest if you like, but I prefer to see a steady rate of posting to a bunch of posts all clustered on the same day. What was I doing while I was gone?
- I accepted a new term of service on my church’s board of directors. That means turning over my old duties and training in the new ones, since this year corresponds with our rotation of eldership duties that takes place every two years. I’m the guy who overseas facilities, networking and finances now.
- My church does an annual three week prayer and fasting exercise in January. We pray twice a day, evening and morning, and find a way to fast, similar to Lent. In my case, I chose to do a Ramadan-style fast, where I only ate after dark. It made me weak, but I’m glad to have done it. I highly recommend both fasting and prayer for people who haven’t tried them.
- I built two servers and at least three desktop systems with Ubuntu Linux, and got a MythTV box working for my friends’ halfway house. Now the residents can watch movies without having to leave the DVDs out in the living room where they can get stolen.
So, I’m back, ending my blogging “fast” in time for Ash Wednesday. What’s the plan for Lent? Eating simple foods and simple meals, and forcing myself to exercise. I’ll try to keep you updated on how that works for me. Stay tuned.
